Staff member responsible for SSSI unit: Paul Hackman

Unit ID: 1013642

Unit area: 17 hectares

Main habitat: Neutral grassland - lowland

Condition:   Unfavourable recovering

Latest assessment date: 16 July 2010

Condition assessment comment: Although most of the unit is favourable, the site is still unfavourable due to the poor quality of the MG8 area which may have deteriorated since the last assessment. However, the land is in HLS and the results have been discussed with the owners. Regular problems with water mains leaks have made both grazing and hay-cutting difficult in most years. The water mains is to be repaired and the grazing and cutting is proposed to be carried out by the owners rather than a third party. This gives a good opportunity to deliver favourable condition during the current HLS scheme although there will be an element of risk surrounding the mains repair and future grazing. Also suggest further survey work to determine the true extent of MG8 habitat as opposed to the MG4.
