Reason for adverse condition

South West  Cornwall  North Cornwall  Supralittoral sediment  Marion Bryant  1008481  32.93  16 Sep 2009  Unfavourable declining  Strandline and embryo dunes largely absent due to high energy environment. Mobile and especially fixed dunes becoming invaded by scrub, mostly bramble and ivy with non-native species sea buckthorn and hebe. Visitor pressure along dune paths between the carpark and beach needs managing to prevent further erosion of the dune front.
South West  Cornwall  North Cornwall  Supralittoral sediment  Marion Bryant  1008482  63.75  11 Aug 2009  Unfavourable recovering  Fixed dune grassland in the golf course rough is going rather rank and becoming dominated by cocksfoot and Yorkshire fog. The sward is currently too tall / rank with a dense tatch underneath. The golf club plan to bring the rough into 2/3 year rotational mangement by cutting and bailing the grass followed by raking / scarification of the ground. This should improve the condition of the dune grassland and keep a check on any scrub expansion, which at present is not a problem.
South West  Cornwall  North Cornwall  Supralittoral rock  Marion Bryant  1008483  17.84  18 Aug 2009  Favourable  Cliff ledge communtities well represented throughout unit. Maritime grassland and heathland communities in good condition. Transitional landward grassland would benefit from seasonal grazing to enahnce sward structure. Geological interest assessed under contract on 17/01/10 by Pat Sargeant: Geological interest favourable.

European gorse scrub will need monitoring for encorachment into heathland or grassland communities.
